The beautiful view of the Han River

The Han River started from Taebaek city, Gangwon province, South Korea, and penetrated the eastern part of the Korean peninsula from east to west. It is a major river in South Korea flowing into the Yellow Sea from the border of Gimpo city and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The water stream originating from the northern slope of the Mt. Taebaek mountain range and flowing to the vicinity of the Ganghwa Strait is the main stream. According to the "Korea River List", which is a collection of observational materials in Korea, the total number of mainstreams is 494km [3].

The main stream of the Han River has hundreds of tributaries including Gyeonggi, Kandong, Hyeon, and Hoseong including the North and the Imjin River (culture language: Limjin River). Based on these tributaries, the Han River system is the second (35,770 km², about 1/6 of the entire width of the Korean peninsula). The length (494km) is the fourth on the Korean peninsula after the Yalu, Tuman and Nakdong rivers, and the second in Korea.

History of the Han River [edit]

Amsadong Prehistoric Sites People have begun to live in the Han River basin since the Paleolithic. The Poejeongryeong Cave and the Dyeongjeon Ruins of Dagyeong-gun, Danyang-gun are the most famous remains of the Paleolithic Age of the Han River. In the Neolithic era, people began to live in earnest, and especially during the fifties in the year of the New Year, Neolithic ruins were found in the Amsadong prehistoric site in Gangdong-gu, Seoul.

After the Bronze Age, in the Iron Age, several small countries of Baekjae and Mahan settled down on the Han River. Among them, Baekje, which grew up in Hanam Province, unified the whole Han River and was in its heyday. After that, Goguryeo occupied the Han River and reached its peak . During Jinheung, Silla occupied the Han River and unified the Baekje and parts of Goguryeo after the prime time. The possession of the Han River basin suggests that the country was prosperous, indicating that the Han River had excellent conditions for geography, population, and diplomacy on the Korean peninsula.

In the early days of the Three Kingdoms period, the Korean peninsula was called Daegu. And Goguryeo called the Han River [8], Baekje called Yukriha, and [9] after commencing trading with Dongjin, it was called Kang. Silla referred to the downstream of the Han River as the downstream and the downstream. [10] At present, the area around Seoul is called Hansan County, but after the occupation of Silla, it was called as Hanju, Hsinchu, Hansanju, Namcheon, etc. and ruled over the monarchs. [11] According to Samguksagi, the Han River was called Hansan-Hae-neok.

In the Goryeo Dynasty, most of the Han River basin was located in Yanggwangdo, and the basin of the North River was under the jurisdiction of Jejudo. Namgyeong, one of the three provinces, and Gwangju, Chungju, At that time, the Han River was said to be hot water because the water stream was spreading clearly, and there was also a lot of sand called Sipyeongdo and Sarijin.

Koryo was destroyed and established, and the Joseon Dynasty was established in Hanyang of Han River basin. The reasons for Han Dynasty are due to the water conditions of the Han River, the influence of the Feng Shui Dynasty, and the political background. It can be seen that the Han River was a convenient place for transportation and a good geographical location. Gyeongchang of Hanyang became the center of the Chowun system that transported rice and cloths collected by tax, and three of the nine congregations were Jangheungchang in Chungju, Heungwonchang in Wonju, and Soyanggangchang in Chuncheon in the middle of the Han River and upstream. The Han River near Hanyang was said to be Kyonggang, but many merchants were gathered in Chonggang through Chowun and a single economy was formed. The expression "Seoul river", which seems to have been influenced by this, may appear in foreign documents. And I installed jeans in every part of the Han River and defended them.

Han River Bridge and Han River Bridge At the end of the Joseon Dynasty, France and the United States broke into the Han River and Ganghwa Island, and after the opening of the port, the steamer ships operated on the Han River. In 1900, the Han River Iron Bridge, the first modern railway bridge in Korea, was completed. In 1916, the first bridge bridge was constructed. In 1912, 1920 and 1925, there was a great flood, especially in 1925 due to the flood in the year of the Han River and the floods of the Han River.

After the end of the Korean War, the Han River iron bridge and footbridge were destroyed during the Korean War, and then rebuilt. In 1970, the construction of the Jamsil area was initiated and landed, and the Jamsil area was developed. [12] In this process, the stream that was south-east was cut off,

With the modernization and industrialization, the water quality of the Han River at that time deteriorated seriously. Through the Han River development project, a park was built and the Olympic Expressway was built and water quality improved. Jamsilbo and Shinkokbo were built to maintain the water level. [14]

In 2007, Seoul announced the Han River Renaissance Project. As a result, water taxis are being operated on the Han River, and development projects for the Han River Park are being carried out. [15]

Recently, the government has been constructing the Gyeongin Canal and the Korean Grand Canal in the Han River to construct a transportation system using waterway, but the efficiency has been raised
