Samgi, a partner of Hyundai Motor Company, will establish a secondary battery parts plant in Alabama, USA. SamgiV aims to achieve sales of 295 billion won by 2025 through its North American secondary battery parts business.
According to the Alabama state government on the 14th, Samgi will invest 128 million dollars (approximately 160 billion won) in the Tuskegee Industrial Complex in Macon County, Alabama, to build a secondary battery parts factory. The factory site is 179,761 square meters, equivalent to five soccer fields, and it plans to start operation in the first quarter of next year and start full-scale commercial production in the second quarter.
It has already signed a definitive contract with the Macon County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) to build the plant.
Samki plans to supply secondary battery parts to domestic battery companies such as LG Energy Solutions and SK On, as well as an electric vehicle-only plant that Hyundai Motor Company is preparing in Georgia.
The Alabama state government expects to create about 170 jobs and plans to support employee recruitment through the Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT), a human resource development agency operated by the Alabama state government.
In addition, MCEDA and the city government decided to actively support it. It is said to help build infrastructure, including civil engineering work, on-site water and sewage work, and installation of substations.
According to an analysis by the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) at the University of Alabama, the economic effect of establishing a factory in Samgi is expected to reach 140.2 million dollars (approximately 178 billion won) annually. It is explained that the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in the region will be 37 million dollars (approximately 47.3 billion won) and the annual tax generation effect will be 1.3 million dollars (approximately 1.6 billion won).
“Samgi is the right manufacturer for Alabama’s emerging global automotive hub,” said Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. do," he said.
Kim Chi-Hwan, CEO of SamgiV, said, "We will make efforts to smoothly supply parts to Hyundai Motor through local factories and grow together."
Meanwhile, Samgi EV was established in 2020 by physically dividing the electric vehicle battery business of Samgi (formerly Samgi Automotive). It ranks first in domestic market share in the field of ‘end plate’ that wraps the exterior of electric vehicle batteries. On the 3rd of last month, it promoted an initial public offering (IPO) to 'enter the North American market' and was listed on the KOSDAQ.
